Growing up, I did not always have the time to hangout in the kitchen with my grandmothers, or even with my mom, to learn how to cook. Doing other things always took priority. However, as I got older and noticed that very few people in our family knew how to cook traditional Jamaican meals, I realized what a loss it would be if these recipes – the way our family made them – were not passed on.
I cherish the times that I have spent around family meals all my life and look forward to the ones still to come. Part of that is being able to prepare the meals that were shared with love in our family from generation to generation.
